Tui Na Massage And Acupressure

Massage is one of the major TCM practices. Chinese style massage, "Tui Na", which literally means "to push and grab", differs greatly from the Western style of massage. Tui Na includes various different massage techniques, for instance twisting, squeezing, pressing, tapping and rubbing, as well as joint and ligament manipulation. Meridians and acupuncture points are also used in Tui Na. The primary goal in Tui Na massage is to enhance and balance the flow of Qi and Blood in the body, not only to relax the muscles. If the flow has been blocked, the processes of the body have been disturbed. The stagnation of Qi and Blood creates pain, tightness and discomfort. Tui Na is given in accordance with a similar diagnosis process as is acupuncture and other TCM methods. The different methods can be given simultaneously with Tui Na, especially in the case of tension and pain.

Acupressure is a practice where the acupuncture points are stimulated by fingers with a pressing and rubbing motion. The effect is based on the same principle as acupuncture, which is to balance the flow of Qi and Blood in the meridians, but without needles. Acupressure is a natural part of the Tui Na massage.
